A Mother Fulfills a Wish to Provide Her Son’s Legacy

Adrian Borneman

Adrian BornemanMore than anything, Adrian Borneman wanted to ensure that her only child, Mark, would be remembered after she was gone. Mark had died suddenly at the age of thirty-one. Mother and son had shared a love for the Arts and over the years Adrian became a big fan of the quality of art education taking place on Eye Street. While working through a professional financial advisor, Adrian made a bequest in her will to support the Gonzaga Art Program. Included in her bequest was naming the President and Directors of Gonzaga College in Washington, D.C. as the beneficiary of the residuary of her retirement fund. By doing so, Adrian's retirement funds would not be subject to estate tax, but rather go directly to Gonzaga. Adrian passed away in the summer of 2015, twenty-two years after Mark. Today, and for generations to come, Gonzaga students will learn to express themselves in the arts from the lessons learned in the Mark Borneman '79 Art Department.
